SCOTUS: Harriet Miers--The Next Dan Quayle?

Rumor has it that Michael Brown turned down the nomination after several Arabian horses promised to testify against him in his confirmation hearings, and the President, who must be doing his own thinking these days, decided to nominate someone with no apparent qualifications for the Supreme Court other than a close relationship to him and the lack of a paper trail leading to any jurisprudence on her part.

Is this the time for the Administration to go for a crony, or is Miers just a jab to be followed by a Rovish right hook when she gets spanked down by the Senate?

After Roberts, who in spite of his conservativism and confirmaitonal reticence, exudes confidence and intelligence, how can a woman without any background in constitutional law or experience on the bench be a good pick to replace Sandra Day O'Connor?

Inquiring minds want to know.
